She joined BASF in February 2003 as a Business Director in Functional Polymers and continued to work her way through the ranks where today she heads BASF’s North America Intermediates business. She attributes much of her success to her mother who immigrated from Germany in the 1950’s and started a business with her husband. Full Biography

An executive with more than 30 years of experience in the chemical industry, Heidi Alderman joined BASF in February 2003 as a Business Director, Functional Polymers, where she was accountable for the Dispersions and Paper Chemicals business in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In January 2008, Ms. Alderman became BASF’s Senior Vice President of Procurement in North America, and in March 2011 was named Senior Vice President of the company’s North American Petrochemicals business, based in Houston.

In August 2016, she assumed her current role as Senior Vice President of BASF’s North America Intermediates business, based in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Ms. Alderman holds a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. After graduation, Ms. Alderman began her career as a process engineer at Rohm and Haas in Philadelphia. During her time with the company, she held various positions of increasing responsibility in their emulsion polymer business.

While with Rohm and Haas, she earned a Master’s of Science in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and soon thereafter completed the Wharton Management Program at the Wharton School of Business. In 1995, she joined Air Products and Chemicals in Allentown, Pennsylvania as a Global Purchasing Manager and held a position as Business Manager, Architectural Coatings.

Ms. Alderman is currently the nationwide Chair of the National Association of Manufacturer’s Step Ahead program, past Chair and current member of the University of Houston’s Engineering Board, and is a member of the national Women Corporate Director’s organization.

Raised in Nutley, New Jersey, Ms. Alderman is the oldest of three children and a first-generation American. She is married and resides in Houston.
