Cheryl Mackey is the Lead of Financial Empowerment at United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ). Cheryl. is responsible for leading UWGPSNJ’s family empowerment and income stability initiatives. This includes managing the development and implementation of initiatives, building key partnerships both locally and nationally that will benefit and improve the economic impact for those in underserved communities to that will break the cycle of poverty in Greater Philadelphia affect policies.
Prior to joining UWGPSNJ Chery held a director position at Utility Emergency Services Fund (UESF), a local non-profit whose mission mirrors that of the United Way, to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty. Cheryl’s prior experience includes 15 years in the Early Childhood Education and Child Welfare sectors, holding positions as a Mental Health Counselor, Foster Parent Recruiter, Director of Childcare amongst other positions. She was also certified as an instructor through PA Keys’ Pennsylvania Quality Assurance System (PQAS) providing training to early childhood educators.
Cheryl holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Lincoln University and a Master in Theological Studies with a concentration in Counseling from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now Palmer). She recently earned certificates in Non-Profit Management from Lasalle Non-Profit Center and Enhancing Trauma Awareness from Lakeside Global Institute.
