Mother-daughter dynamic duos dominate Mother’s Day

In honor of Mother’s Day, I wanted to take some time to reflect on some of the great dynamic duos in history: Batman and Robin, Peter Pan and Tinkerbell, Mickey and Minnie, Superman and Lois Lane.
photo-of-mother-daughter-duoOK, so maybe my imagination is running wild today. While investigating the (fictional) history of dynamic duos, I started to think about actual dynamic duos in the business word. Going even further, I decided to take a look at mother-daughter teams who have made an impact on my hometown; the great city of Philadelphia.

While researching the perfect mother-daughter dynamic duo, I came across a company called Strut-This. After first learning about this team I became fascinated with their story and business model. As it turns out the mother (Barbara Lessner) had a dream of one day working with her daughter (Raquel Lessner). Barbara’s dream came to life one day when Raquel came to her with the idea about creating her own fitness line. After zero hesitation and a little research, they partnered with another mother-daughter team in California (Cynthia and Aubrey Sieder) to make their dreams a reality.

Strut-This wholeheartedly believes in empowering women of all ages to feel confident and look good while working out. This dynamic foursome’s workout gear has recently earned Best of Philadelphia “Best All-Purpose Workout Gear.” Give their website a look – trust me, you’ll thank me for it!

As a successful businesswoman it was refreshing to read about Barbara and Raquel’s success. Their story, business model and vision empowered me to learn more about them and ultimately motivated me to include them in this blog. I’ve never opened a business with my mother, but I understand why the team at Strut-This has been so effective. As a woman, your first bound is with your mother. It’s the first true relationship in a daughter’s life and hopefully the longest. Even in business, it’s easier to set boundaries and establish respect with your mother than it may be for someone you’ve only met during an interview or two.

While doing research, I didn’t find many other mother-daughter small business owners in my area that have had success like the team at Strut-This. It’s not to say that there are not many out there, because I know there are. To all my empowered women reading this article: Let’s do a better job at recognizing and helping these mother-daughter dynamic duo teams out when we see or hear about them. Your mother will be proud of you!

What’s your favorite mother-daughter dynamic duo in business?

Happy Mother’s Day!
