Kimberly McGlonn’s constant? Design. It represents the throughline for every project she has her hands in. From serving as a faculty member at Drexel University to writing books and developing clothing lines, McGlonn is always thinking of ways to use design to engage with people. While McGlonn is grounded, perceptive, and forward thinking, her road to success was far from easy. Obstacles from her youth and young adulthood proved formidable, but McGlonn’s handling of these circumstances shaped the person and leader she has ultimately become. Women to Watch’s Sue Rocco chats with McGlonn about her experiences, lessons learned, and how she’s applied them across her diverse portfolio of endeavors.

Dr. Kimberly McGlonn is an award-winning social entrepreneur who combines her expertise in sustainable fashion, education, and advocacy to create positive change nationally. She is the founder of Grant Blvd, a Philadelphia based B Corp that addresses climate change and criminal system reform by producing stylish, sustainably sourced clothing and goods for the hospitality sector. Additionally, she is the CEO and Founder of Blk Ivy, a brand that pays homage to the style and spirit of the revolutionary figures of the Civil Rights Movement.
With a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction, an Ed.S. in Curriculum Theory, and a BA in English-Literature from Louisiana State University, Dr. McGlonn also serves as a Teaching Faculty at Drexel University, where she shares her insights into social and environmental justice. She is also the inaugural VP of Social Impact at Fitler Club and the founder of “Build It Boldly”, a digital community that empowers others to discover their purpose. As a former Councilwoman in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, she works at the intersection of private sector, government, and non-profits, aligning them to achieve sustainability and social impact goals. Dr. McGlonn is a creative strategist, a brand manager, and a curator of radically inclusive teams. Her work has been funded by Beyonce and featured by various media outlets.
