“How do I start my next chapter?” That’s the question Janet Foutty found herself confronting a little more than a year ago. Having reached the crossroads of a highly successful career at Deloitte that spanned more than three decades and culminated in her role as the company’s chair of the board, the veteran executive decided it was time to try something new. What would it be? How has she handled the transition? In a conversation with Women to Watch’s Sue Rocco, Janet talks about her time growing up in Washington D.C., the key traits she believes she inherited from her parents, her love of her work, and why she wants women to know that they are not alone.

Janet Foutty is a principal with Deloitte Consulting LLP and formerly served as executive chair of the board of Deloitte US from 2019-2023. Previously, she served as chair and CEO of Deloitte Consulting LLP.
While chair, Janet focused on critical matters of strategy, risk management, and talent. In close collaboration with the CEO, Janet also successfully steered the firm through the pandemic. While focusing on DEI for her clients and Deloitte, she achieved greater diversity of the board itself, including reaching gender parity. During her tenure, she also chaired Deloitte Foundation, the not-for-profit organization that helps develop future diverse talent and promote innovation, excellence, and equity, in education in the United States, and served on Deloitte’s Global Board of Directors.
While CEO of Deloitte Consulting, she led the digital transformation and growth of the business through significant investments in digital, artificial intelligence, and cloud. Janet previously led Deloitte’s Federal and Technology businesses, which grew exponentially through organic growth, acquisitions, and the launch of numerous businesses including Deloitte Digital.
Janet is a frequent author and public speaker. She is a co-author of the bestselling book, Arrive and Thrive: 7 Impactful Practices for Women Navigating Leadership. She regularly communicates with executive-level audiences about the changing business landscape, leadership, corporate governance, crisis resiliency, equity, and technology disruption. Her thought leadership has appeared in business publications including Fortune, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, and The Wall Street Journal.
